Cephalanthus occidentalis

A member of the coffee family, the name of this shrub comes from the interesting flowers, which are arranged in small spheres with protruding anthers.  Blooms frequented by butterflies.

–  6-12 feet tall and 4-8 feet wide
–  Full sun to part sun
–  Blooms June-August
–  Wet to medium wet soils. Ideal for rain gardens and low-lying areas.
–  Rounded, multi-stemmed growth habit. Spreads by suckering, forming thickets.
